Apologies, Its been a long time since the last update so this is going to be a bit of a photo dump, however the body work is finally complete!
I'm very pleased with the final outcome however there's still plenty to do.

before primer and paint

Thank you for these posts. I am in the process of rebuilding the back end of mine right now. Some very useful shots here, much appreciated. Tony.

Default 50 year service

Hi All,

I knew I had an exhaust leak but upon feather inspection evidence pointed to a snapped manifold stud. It was at this point I thought, I may as well take the engine out, and send the head away.
whilst the engine bay is empty, i also wanted to renew all the suspension bushes and joints and have a tidy up of the eying bay.

First Job, Remove engine.
Iv have changed clutches on fwd cars before but never removed the lot, to be honest i found this to be a lot easer then i had expected.

after seeking advice the steering and suspention parts came of with surprising ease,

the old bushes and Joints where in quite a state

The condition of the engine was largely unknown, however when the head came off i was please to see honing marks on the boars.
The engine still has its felt seals so these are next to go

Suspension arms and cross member are going to get shot blasted this week.
I'm hoping to hear back for the machine shop about the head soon,

however...
Now the engine is out i would quite like a little bit more from the b18

I would like to go for a K cam twin carbs and exhaust.
Please advise!!

I prefer the D over the K but there is not much in them.

Twin SU's are decent enough for a road car and provide a good balance between power and consumption.

Exhaust best value for power is to keep the cast twin downpipe manifold and have system from there. Adding a 4 branch manifold does give you a small gain again but is for for those chasing the last ounce of power

RENEW FELT SEALS ! , ! Don't make the mistake of switching to newer seals the rubber is terrible and you will have no end of trouble with leaks fit new felt seals I would never ever do it again on my own cars felt seals seal themselves so if it's been sat for a while say laid up over winter after a few miles driving seals bk up with oil etc .. Most think o I need new seals you don't !

Heed my warning otherwise expect endless seal issues with new type seals nothing wrong with felt seals far superior in my view

Kind regards

Thanks for the advice Robert, you are the first person I have heard say that but it does make sense. When you think a lot of people are just replacing them when the engine is 50yrs old what's the problem? Why risk poor modern rubber?

Default Seals

Robert, for those of us who have already taken the neoprene seal route, can the original felt seals be used in the now-machined covers, or should the neoprene ones be used again?
