96 n reg V40 horn problems
I was using air horns on My v40 but the otherday they stopped working.
Horns work on the battery and the real horn that came with car works on battery. I put multimeter on connectors for the horn press the horn and the power is there. Any help. No fuses gone. there is power. Both buttons on steering wheel show power on meter. Cheers |

RE: 96 n reg V40 horn problems
Seems there is a problem with the 40 wheels for that age car. My wife's S40 horn stopped working too. The earth ring around the wheel becomes dirty and needs cleaning. Not an easy job as it involved exposing the airbag and blowing the crud out with an airline.

It's not a problem with the steering wheel as he has already said that there is power at the actual connectors for the horn. I would advise removing the air line from the compressor and try the horn. if your compressor makes a fairly loud whirring sound, then there is a problem with the reverberators in the horns (or maybe an air leak in the lines, or a blockage.... you will NOT be able to blow air through the horns yourself so don't try.) If it doesn't whir, the compressor has gone... this is what happened to mine. either way you're looking at buying a new set... they're only a tenner anyway! |

lol that'll teach me to read your initial post properly.
Are you using a relay to power the air horns? If you are, try swapping that one. If not, install a relay! |

There will be power throughout the circuit. Pressing the wheel earths the circuit, thus completing it.
