Classic car Show NEC
Having visited the CCS show at the NEC Birmingham for the past 10 years I am very disappointed at this years Volvo Owners Club stand, no amazons, PV544 or P1800 and I believe this years theme was 6 cylinder engines however there were only three volvos in total on the stand. I would be interested in finding out how many new members were encouraged to join the club this year in comparason to previous years. Indeed there were no amazon anywhere on display at this years show, I would be interested in finding out other members views.

Hi Giovanni,
I visited the Volvo stand at the NEC hoping to look at and learn about Amazons as I am thinking about buying one. Nice display, but a shame there were no Amazons to be seen. All the Best, Tim |

Me too!!! Where were all the lovely Amazons? Where were the 1800s and the PV's?
I've just had to console myself by spending half-an-hour in my garage with my head under the bonnet of my Amazon planning my next job.... |

nec show
I to am dissapointed in the attitude that is being taken by some members, who feel they have not been catered for at this years event, the volvo owners club caters for all types of volvos not just classic "AMAZONS"I believe a lot of time and effort went into this years show and i think they should be contragatulated on this years theme, thank you voc.

Time may have been spent however it was A CLASSIC CAR SHOW and not a volvo forecourt that I paid to see. Perhaps the organisers should recognise that visitors to a classic car show may actually want to see CLASSIC cars or perhaps I may be misled in my asumptions.

There was a 244, a 164 and an old vintage style Volvo - I'm not sure what the model number was. I think that there was a 264 also but I wouldn't swear to it. The cars looked well and the club members on the stand were friendly and chatty but I too was disappointed with the display. I'd have liked to see a 444/544, 120 series and maybe even a P1800. The stand looked bare in comparison with the Volvo Enthusiasts Club stand, although that club had a smaller floor area to work with. They had a nice PV convertible which was worth a look.
The VOC stand was quite big which drew attention to the lack of cars. I understand that the club caters for all Volvo eras but it was a classic car show. I wouldn't have objected to seeing a nice 300 series or maybe one of the Daf derivatives. Maybe the club organisers didn't get as much support as they needed from club members to arrange a more comprehensive display? We can't automatically assume that the organisers are to blame. |

That's a shame I think it was a good effort last year, but again shame not to see a 300/400/66 series car since there was a 940 on the stand (admittedly it was immaculate)!

This is the first year I wasn't able to attend the NEC for ages, so no direct comment. However, amalgamating the various comment from others on here so far, I offer the following thoughts:
As this year is the 40th anniversary of the Volvo 164 this provides the perfect link to a different array of cars from the usual Amazon etc. Yes - thats right - different classic cars on the VOC stand to the predictables of the last several years! And we have a 122S for show use and an Amazon Estate project imminent, also a 164E for show use, so we know both models very well. Putting it into perspective, answer the question - how many 164s and 262s have you seen on the road lately (if at all)? In the southeast there are less than half a dozen 164s and barely two 262s on the road, whereas there are about 10 Amazons just in Brighton and Worthing alone. And as for the third car, I gather it is a very early limo, the only one in the UK (I didn't think a non-suitable 9-series car was there but I stand to be corrected). So there you have it - a selection of rare six-cylider cars - excellent. However I too would have liked to see a PV again, but the VOC had their theme, and I for one congratulate the management for sticking to it rather than squeeze in an interloper. This of course doesn't mean the 300 series and 400 series should be neglected next time - perhaps the 2010 theme should be "small family Volvo's" when the neglected Daf models could also be included. Hi, having just spent today at the nec "CLASSIC CAR SHOW" there were plenty of classic cars on show, not all volvos admittedly but what was on show was excellent, the cars at the volvo owners club stand were a volvo 262,pv651 and a164,I am sure most volvo drivers would have a smile on there faces if they seen these stunning examples on any forecourt they passed, and once again many thanks to the staff on the volvo stand for there pleasent manner in dealing with any enquiries,so i think it is the case, that you can please some of the people some of the time ,but you cant please all of the people all of the time
regards Victor |
