I always have my climate control running on all my cars. I find it keeps the cabin from steaming up at the very least. My V70's compressor failed a year ago (140,000 miles). Whilst I was waiting for it to be replaced I monitored fuel consumption and it made only a slight difference (this was spring time, so only occasional warm days), whilst the cabin very quickly became humid and steamed up easily. Getting it replaced was the best near £1000 I have spent on the car. During this recent hot spell the cabin has always remained cool and lovely (set to 21C) and I have still averaged around 40-42mpg on my local running.

What a nuisance, and waste of money. Do you think you'll be able to make a successful warranty claim?

The ac engineer located an intermittent power connector to the clutch solenoid. This has now been fixed and all is working.
