Spare wheel I formation please!
Hi Folks. A mate has a space saver spare 125/80 R17 he's offering at a good price but will it fit my S60 2011 D5? I'm currently carrying a full sized spare rather than relying on the gung since we do a lot of remote travelling in France - and a spare is preferable!
But if the space- saver can do the job, I'd prefer that! Comments would be well appreciated. Cheers, JM |

What vehicle is it from ?
The tyre size is only half the story, what's the PCD of the wheel ? |

I have a 2011 V60 which I think has the same wheels you have? Mine is on 17s. Anyway I got the same wheel as you are looking at from a local junk yard for $30.00 off an older S60. I got it home and fitted it and drove it for a few ks and kicked it up to 100km for a burst and it runs smooth and fine. However I need to change my floor to get it under in the V60 and I hear the S60 has less room under the trunk floor?

So far I've seen 2 options for a space saver (which comes in a bag) - first is strap the bag down which is a bit ugly, the 2nd is to fit it in a floor surround which raises the boot floor about 100mm or 4 inches. OP like ushes said I'd check what car it came from and make sure the wheel nuts are in the same place and the rolling radius is the same. Also, consider the age of the spare on offer - is the rubber or valve 10-12 years old and unable to hold the pressure? In my last puncture repair, the rescue guy said a significant number of his calls were to flat spares that had never been checked till needed! Modern cars come without spare wheels because modern tyres are brilliant compares to older ones. That said, I too share your anxiety about not even a space saver, and as a new owner of a Volvo s60 it's still on my mind as to whether to buy or not. I only had.....2-3 punctures in about 20 years of motoring - of those, all could probably be fixed with the gunk (assuming it worked) so that's how I'm thinking about it at the moment. |

I can't find edit option, so I've added this post.
This is the floor surround I mentioned above - the wheel is extra. Might help you see what I mean! https://www.volvopartshop.com/storag...cc-16112-p.asp |

I ended up getting a 17" donut spare from a 90s S60 and it's a fit.
I ran it on the car and it's smoother than expected.. The wheel is still slightly high for my space so I took out the factory floor and made a new one from a sheet of 15mm cabinet grade wood. Without the ribs found under the original plus the hinges etc for the stowage divider it has built in I now have tons of depth. I don't use the divider and have a rubber boot liner in the car in any case so it looks mint. If I desire I can return the car to factory in a few minutes. The wheel from memory is 125 60 17... It is unrestrained so far but I am not concerned. I simply placed a blanket in the base and put the tire with tools in the center of the wheel and folded the blanket up around it which seems snug as a bug etc. I have the blanket to lay on should I need it which I hope to never use and the floor I made is slide in so I could in a pinch use it for something more substantial to lay or kneel on if the job calls for it. |

Jealous of the room you have!
Hope you never need the spare.
