Auto Dimming Mirror Replacement/Repair
My auto dimming mirror has now gone cloudy and is pretty useless.
I recall some years ago reading that someone bought a spare from a breakers and once fitted was suffering from electrical problems due to the attached/coded electronics which in the end needed dealer attention to rectify/replace. Are there any known repairs for these or is it just a case of getting it replaced at a dealer?

There is a fix for this I have seen at least for the P2 V70 - I got here by error but saw this post.
You are correct, you can't just swap the components over there are issues. BUT.. The fix I saw involved separating the mirror into its two components, the mirror bit, and its electronic bit. Its the mirror bit that's gone south. Do the same with the donor mirror, swap the mirror bits across, re-assemble, and things should work fine. The original electrics are still in place to talk with the CAN BUS and the mirror is fine with the new electronic pack. I seen to remember its a bit fiddly separating the bits, you need to juggle a soldering iron too. I'll see if I can find a linky Cheers Bob |

Found these two vids on you tube
1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJb0ELMFeUA 2)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-Xh9K_a9mA There might be others, and also info on this forum I'd take apart the donor mirror first - get practice and mark where the PCB fits on the mirror to help get the sensor alignment spot on. Good Luck Cheers Bob |
