Default XC60 or BMW X3

Hi all new here! Looking for an XC60 or BMW X3! Anyone had both any reviews? I do prefer looks of the Volvo. Will be my first Volvo.

Budget around £15k. What should I look out for in particular? E.g. Main issues? Timing belts? Did the new engines and 8 speed box come in 2014?

Sorry for all the questions!

Thankyou

Hi and welcome.
Not tried an X3 but I had a brand new Q3 for a week and wasn’t a patch on the Volvo but all depends on what you can get for the money.

New D4 fwd 2.0 engine came in 2014 I’m sure someone will confirm when with 8 speed geartronic which is a cracking combo. Try the different models as they all have different seats. After seeking out and owning a Volvo for 3 years Seats are my number 1 consideration.

If you look at a D4 VEA new engine make sure it has had the full and final EGR fix, it’s an £800 job and do not accept one that hasn’t had it done and don’t rely on main dealers having done it demand the paperwork or check with Volvo.

I’ve prob got some brochures for the full specs around that time if you pm me your email address.

8-speed geartronics arrived with the MY14.5 first manufactured 2013 week 46.
The legacy price lists are here:

I'd avoid the R-Design 'basic'. No remote boot release. It's all in the price lists.

had extended test drives in both the 2.0 X3 and D4 XC60.
Went for the XC60 as it was:
more comfortable
better value (for what I wanted) at the time of the deal.
Could have got a good discount on the X3 courtesy of a "What Car" special deal from Park Lane BMW, but volvo deal was just better.
X3 ride was a bit hard (had to have runflats). Active/Variable Dampers recommended.
But the IDrive was superb. Great interface. I don't mind buttons though!
Both are good cars, and you need to have a long test drive in both, at the spec you want. Could be quite a search....
