Default Volvo 940 electrics help !!!!!

I have been having problems withe the dash and centre consol backlights not working since I bought the car. Reading up on the problem I ordered a new dash dimmer switch and tried that but still no joy and the fuse is ok . Does anyone know the diagnostic procedure to find the fault ?? I'm quite handy with a multi meter but if anyone knows of what and where to check that would be super!!!! Ps I have checked and I have no power to the consol back lights so i can rule out bulbs thanks in advance !!

Do you have power into the dimmer? If so, then there is probably a loose connection or a combination of dry joints on the PCB and a few failed bulbs. If you don't have power there then maybe the ignition switch is going faulty.
