  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

I found quite a lot of pics with it hanging as per the picture Jack including a few images from Volvos own catalogues but then later found a couple with them on their sides like yours apparently is. I've not had a white block so don't know what the "default position" is although i found several images of 5-pot white blocks with the filters halfway along and up the block on the side.

As for the filter, some time back there was another thread (think it was on here) and the genuine Volvo filters are supplied by and made on the same production lines as Bosch and Mann filters in various locations around the planet. That said, unless you go for a completely cheap, unknown brand then you're pretty safe anyway.

Coopers, TJ, Fram, all good as well, there are others that i can't think of just now that are good as well. These days with automated production, it's unlikely that the filter would fail or slip through QA or that the anti-drain valve would be faulty.

I'd keep an eye on things and try the ATF when the level settles a bit
