I can confirm that I did NOT remove the Crank pulley.
The new belt can then be slid through the small gap without damaging it.

It is very tight to do but normal finger pressure is sufficient.

I would just add, careful not to twist too much the new belt while sliding it trough this tight space. These belts don't like to be 'locally' twisted because of potentially fragile material inside, such as composite fibers not designed to be twisted.

I wonder if anyone having passed their belt trough that tight space noticed the belt running closer near the left side of the cam pulleys once everything in place?

Hi everyone

I spent a considerable amount of time today changing the timing belt on my D5 V50 2008

It took a long time due to the engine still being in the car (and it being my first time changing a belt on the V50)!

But I can also clarify that you don't need to take the bottom crank pulley off in order to change the belt.
It's just a little awkward sliding the belt into position.

Hi Rich
I see that you are in Havant
I am only up the road in Emsworth, I also Have volvo Vida & Dice
Good to know that it can be done without removing the bottom pulley,
I did remove the pulley,
Did you change the serpentine belt and all of the tensioners at the same time,
Dave

Ah brilliant, that could come in useful soon!

You have 2 auxiliary belts there, and I only changed one of them, had completely forgotten about the tensioners when buying the parts. They are next on my list!
