Not sure what happened. Either it was showing incorrect message earlier or incorrect message now.
I am planning to wait couple more days before refiling Adblue if required.
The loan car I had which had the adblue warning message on had been filled with adblue the day before as I was informed when I took car back and told them the light was on.

On a similar note, I put 7 or 8 litres of diesel in a loan car which was low on fuel but the gauge didn't show the extra fuel. I mentioned this to the dealer and was told that a minimum of 10 litres has to be input for the system to register it correctly.

Good fun when you run out of fuel and fill it with a 5 litre jerry can but it refuses to start as it hasn't registered the fuel (the old PSA diesels have an artificial cut out rather than let themselves run dry as there is no priming pump fitted, not sure what the latest cars do).

I don't know how it works, but a mate ran my XC90 dry. We popped in some fuel from a 5L can and it started again straight away.

As it should. It is not the fuel gauge that cuts the engine off when the tank is empty. It is the lack of fuel.
Most CR engines purge or bleed themselves when the ignition is turned on and left for a few seconds before cranking. At which point it should start without drama, as you found.

Guys, you all drive expensive executive Volvos. Just pop into the dealer and they will top up for you right away. What is the point of getting your hands dirty...

Need to get into that Porsche and Mercedes customer mindset. Volvo is a premier brand now.

Some are more practical than others. Just this evening I whipped the front wheel off one of my cars to investigate a noise which turned out to be a bit of hard dirt behind the caliper causing the shield to vibrate. Filling Adblue is easier and faster than finding and downing a pint of lager. Cheaper per pint too.

If you own an Adblue model, do you just buy 20 litres or so of the stuff once a gear and leave it in the garage, or do you hunt out a filling station with an Adblue hose?

Depends on your anticipated annual consumption and whether a dealer or filling station with pump is convenient to you.
You can buy it in 2, 10, 20, 200 and 1000litre packs, or even get a bulk delivery to your permanent store should you use enough.

One car doing about 15,000 miles a year at 40mpg of diesel will 'probably' consume 1700 litres of fuel plus 50 litres Adblue. I'm basing that on truck relative percentage consumption, but it is probably worse case in a car. It's a bit early to be specific about Volvo's consumption, because they have not been out vey long.

So with a theoretical 50 litre annual consumption, it's up to you whether you feel the need to buy a drum and tundish ready to refill, or whether you get it filled by other means.

Rather than a common tundish, the best way to avoid spills [small spills are not critical and can be washed away with water] is to purchase one genuine Volvo 2litre bottle of Adlbue, empty it into the car, then in your shed, saw the bottom of the bottle off and clean it thoroughly, thereafter using that as a tundish which screws securely to the fill pipe of the car.
Bare in mind that I haven't actually seen the quality of their bottle, but that is what a good few people do with their Mercedes vehicles, which have had Adblue for a few years now.

Here's a link to what Volvo say
