Default Ipod in Car Connectivity

Hey there, i was wondering if it is possible to get a system to connect an ipod to an sc-801 head unit in an 850? However is it possible to have both a 6cd changer and an ipod connected!?
I now there are two input/outputs onb the back of the head unit, one is being used for the volvo external 6 cd changer and the other is for an amp, so i presume the amp slot is an output...?

Can anyone help?

Cheers

I colleague at work has bought his wife an add on for her ipod that transmits the ipod music on FM radio signal and all you do is tune the radio in your car or at stero at home to the frquency. If you want I can ask where he got it from and how much let me know if you want this info

I think that'll be the I trip, and if I remember rightly, your not really allowed to use them in the UK.

I looked for AGES to try and find a suitable system, and spoke to several companies who promised such a system, but after their tests (thank God not at my expense) it seems that such a system would cost another £200 or so by the time you have bought cables and adaptors, and still wouldn't give you control over the iPod via the stereo controls. I went out and bought a £8 cassette adaptor and this works very well. i am a musicians and sound recordist, and seeing as the car is far from ideal for any serious listening, the sound quality is easily good enough. In fact, on a direct CD changer to iPod cassette adaptor comparison, I could not tell the difference. (The car was moving at the time)

If you want to pursue the more involved/expensive route, I believe the system is called the iCE link and a brief search on the net should produce several results.

Default iPod adapter to CD connection

I found this old thread when looking for something else.

My recently acquired 960 has an adapter (designed for a Honda) which masquerades as a 6 CD changer when connected to an iPod.

It seems to work O.K. but I haven't had a real change to play with it yet.

This is instead of the CD changer, not as well as.

I can post details if anyone is interested.

These have been legalised now in the UK:

Sound quality varies massively depending on how good the unit is and what interference is around. I bought an £5 jobbie off Ebay (eg: ebay no. 80160640864), works fine in my S40 with loud music, but anything quiet (or classical) and the background hiss is a little too intrusive.

Best bet is just to try one out though!
