so, interesting convo this.

The inscription we test drove the nappa leather just seemed to feel really thin to touch. Compared to our audi which has nappa and it feels and is properly robust.

The nappa in the volvo to me felt like it could tear easily.

The momentum leather which we are getting just feels like it will take more of a kicking from general family life.

I do believe there are blond leather paints that will sort this out if you want to go down this road.

I've got similar edge wear on my CRV's leather seats…………. after 60,000 miles.

The Nappa leather does feel rather thin on these cars and I left my camera bag on the back seat yesterday for a couple of hours and it left an imprint of its stumpy little legs on the leather. Nothing permanent of course, but I've never noticed that on any of my other cars.

I've got a Land Cruiser with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock and its leather faced seats and vinyl bits look just like new apart from a weathered and slightly creased look to the driver's seat. Let's hope that my nappa Volvo seats look as good at 200,000 miles.

I was a little concerned about the nappa leather, but so far its done around 10k and is still looking really good (as it should be). I stupidly didn't check before dropping one of the third row of seats when the car was nearly new, and the kids had left a plastic bowl on the seat. When I removed it there was a really deep inprint and I was very disappointed. But a few days later after the seat had been used again for a few short journey's, you just couldn't see the mark, very impressed.

Are the seats in the OP standard or nappa leather?

Edit: just checked back and its Inscription.

We have the beige seats as it makes the interior lighter.

Both the driver and passenger seat base (i.e. the bit you sit on) had to be replaced by Volvo Feb 2017. The leather actually rubbed down to the base material of the leather as we clean the jeans colouring off. Volvo replaced the base of the seat free of charge.

We just have the normal standard leather seats that come with the Inscription model. Blonde leather. Leather outer layer worn off after around 7,000 miles, mostly short journeys so in and out of the car often. Though I think it is mainly the cleaning that caused the outer leather to rub off.
We previously had the XC60 for 5 1/2 years and this was never a problem at all.

Apologies, my car is an Inscription with standard nappa leather on multi contour seats. Looks like the multi contour seats are no longer available on the MY18, interestingly.

Thanks for the suggestion on the leather paint option, but that will not be a solution for me at this stage as my car is only 6 months old.

There have been many instances of dealers replacing seat bases due to Warn leather, this is absolutely what you need.

Greg - I might be wrong but I think that the third row seats are standard leather even when the car is nappa..... Sure I read that somewhere....

Yes as I have had my drivers seat already replaced at 2500 miles, which is great. My concern though, is that this will just happen again unless there was a fault with the original leather. I am used to leather lasting a very long time on the previous cars I owned and never wear other than the drivers seat.

I must add though, that the rest of the car, apart from the usual niggles, I am very happy with. (touch wood)
