Default Insurance cover for EU after BREXIT

Just in case the UK leaves the EU sometime what will we need to do about insurance cover for European countries for holidays? My insurer has not raised this with me yet! Before we joined the EU I recall we required a green card and international driving licence so I assume we go back to that?

I think your assumption is correct - when/if it happens!
What a waste of money and time this has turned out to be, and it hasn’t even started yet. A concept born of (understandable) ignorance from the top down to the voters. Still, it’s democracy!

From the top of my head:

2 driving permits, country (of travel) dependent, obtainable at post office at around £5.50 each.

Green card from insurer, and in case that you have accident abroad that wasn't your fault, you will be expected to deal with other party insurer on your own, in their language..

Best to check gov site.

Just received this from my insurer. It contains most of the information and links for when the s**t hits the fan, or not, or whatever!

Who do you insure with, Elephant wrote to me about the requirement for a green card about 2 months back.

Was strange to get post from them as normally everything is online!

Default insurance post brexit

My insurer at present is Direct Line, but I might be going over to LV in June as part of Chris Knott VOC insurance plan.

Just be very aware! Direct Line sent out a comprehensive Q&A list this week including:

Q19 Do I need to do anything with my number plate?

EU GB number plates will no longer be valid. These are plates with a “GB” country identifier (or other UK variations, e.g. Cymru) surrounded by the EU star design. You will need to have a GB (or other UK variation) sticker or a number plate without the EU stars.

I bet anyone £1 to a piece of dust that the French will enforce this with gusto as you roll off the ferry/Eurotunnel
