Yes, it is. And I found a reference saying that it's indeed designed for the V70N, but fits the V70 II as well, if you cut it down to about 92 cm.
I don't know if you can see this image without being a member on that forum? Looks like it works. As you can see, it doesn't seal the openings, but diverts water away from them. Which is sufficient, at least for me. |

I did try the above method, not with the volvo seal I might add, but water got round the edges and pooled below the hinges, much less but if stood long enough or really bad rain it pooled and leaked. It either got in the hinge opening or in around the hinge casing.
It pooled so much that when I drove away I could hear the water run away. I found my method posted earlier with the picture worked best for me and hasn't let any water collect at all below the hinges. That area in all fairness is just a bad design. Regards Pete

I didn't have problems with water pooling below the hinges. I had problems with water landing on the hinges themselves, then following them into the openings and into the roof.
The round plugs below the hinges aren't leaking on my car. Water does pool there, but that doesn't seem to matter. But of course, Britain isn't famous for the sunny weather... |

' Morning gentlemen and, yet again. I'm grateful for the additional info :
1. Apersson850 ......Yes, got the picture as I am member ... strangely enough I was going to ask you the positioning of the Volvo Strip ... now I have exactly the answer ... looks good and I'm pleased that it works. 2.Peter86 ... I do tend to agree with you as I said before ... but I've ordered strip from local Volvo dealer so I'll try first ...if not successful I'll add "your" strip as well. You might well be interested by .... ........Local dealer .. got strip in by 3.00 p.m. yesterday .. they tried it on similar vehicles in for service at their premises ... spoke at 4.00 p.m. and updated me .. posting to me last night free of charge. Emailed 2 other Volvo dealers yesterday a.m. for assistance and part ... one said part was totally unsuitable for my model and I would need special build seal, even sending diagrams of my model without strip ... another quoted almost £60.00 and I found that he quoted for wrong part ... 2 others haven't even replied within 24 hours. However, your help greatly is appreciated and I'll keep you updated. Regards Topper |

Following up on my earlier posts ....fitted strip to car a couple of days ago, after shortening strip by about 10 mm... pretty much as shown by piotrek's post yesterday....... so far no rain has fallen but did wash car with hose yesterday and no apparent leaks(s) .... so far ....!!!
....... question for piotrek (excellent video on this problem, although I know video is from elsewhere...... ) ........just in case there are further problems.... I never thought about aerial antenna cover being the culprit ... not clear how it is removed .. Just prise off ??? ... or unscrew from inside car with all the associated lining problems ... ??? ... any idea of cost of replacement cover seal....?? Thanks.. Topper |

Finally solved ...????
Unfortunately, the fixes detailed earlier have proved ineffective and after heavy rain, water continued to enter the rear panel and load area ..
.....it defeated my indy dealer, although he found a water run from the rear windscreen .. so it was off to the recommended windscreen guys who proved fast, competent and thorough...... ....leak eventually traced to a factory "fitted" aperture about 15 mm in diameter under tailgate light cluster, simply factory covered with a 25 mm square sticky foam pad ( one under each cluster L and R ) !!! ..... these had rotted.. come away from body shell allowing water to enter.... can't believe it.... photos available. The windscreen guys told tales of customers coming to them after lack of success from main dealers of all types of new cars, they wanted only to fit new tailgate assembly running into thousands ... the job cost ...??? ...less than £50.00 !!! |

Similar problem
I have the same issue with my '08 V70 (MkIII) - the carpet trim on the underside of the tailgate gets wet - saturated if the rain is heavy enough. I thought originally that it was a problem with backdraft spray, but this happens when the car is stationary.
I bought (on 19th October) the suggested sealing strip from Amazon, then noticed that the delivery date was 6th to 15th November! So I got a similar one off eBay that was delivered in three days. Fitted it as per picture and it certainly stops water getting in below the hinges, but has not stopped the wet trim on the bottom of the tailgate. Topper: did you have your rear screen re-sealed, or did replacing the aperture covers under the light clusters solve the problem on its own? |
