Crazy service plans
I bought my XC60 on February 20th and thought that I would look into getting a service plan. People on here had quoted £599 for 5 years but Volvo website has quoted me £992 for 3 years. My mileage is about 2000 miles a year. How do they work these things out?
By the way, their website won't give a quote at all if you use an iPad but it will if you use a Windows laptop. |

I bought a six month old V90 demonstrator and couldn't negotiate this with the dealer so I took out a 3 year/3 services plan similar to the one you've found online. As maintenance is 12 months or 18k miles whichever comes first, your 2k miles per year puts you in the timescale category.

Based on previous experiences with Volvo service costs, they alternate between £350 and £500 per service.
So, if we assume you're getting a Yr1 / 20k miles(?) service + Yr 2 + Yr 3 = £350 + £500 + £350 = £1,200 So the service plan would save you £200 or so. If you've had the Yr 1 service already though and your service plan would then cover Yrs 2, 3 & 4 then I reckon that would come in around £500 + £350 + £500 = £1,350, so saving even more. To be honest, if the saving is only £200 then I personally wouldn't bother with the service plan, as I have found Volvo dealers more likely to discount the non-service items like brake fluid, etc if you don't have a service plan...and you can get a VOC discount on the normal services (but not on the service plan again)

Cost of VOC membership is £30. Some Volvo dealers will offer 25% discount on servicing costs but again you have to be a member of the club to access those. I would join as the membership fee will be more than compensated for by the discount on your first service.

they are 2 different things A service plan you pay so much a month into your volvo pot to spread the cost , you can cash it in at any time with no loss. If you are only doing 2000 miles a year it is even more important to have servicing .. any volvo service receptionist will explain it face to face ..

I took delivery of an XC60 (admittedly the order was placed many months ago) and paid for the £599 5 year service package. There were leaflets about this on display and it was not conditional on VOC membership etc
It's even listed on the website: LINKY (it's the one on the right)

The service plan is only on offer if you buy a new car,our last XC60 we bought was the managers car and 3 months old and we could not take out the service plan, this time we looked at the service managers car but again they would not offer the 5 year service plan so we went for a new car as there was no difference in the price with the loyalty discount.
