I agree though, it's bad enough all the so called safety systems bleeping, binging, moving the steering wheel etc as it is. If a car now decides your eyes make you look drunk and pulls over how is it going to know it's safe to do so bar radar? Thing is a joke and gimick and is definitely pushing me away from Volvo. I really hope the inevitable time when cars scan speed limits and enforce them, track your every move (even more than now) and basically just become robotic human moving devices with no control or interaction is way past the time I hang up my driving licence. |

What happened was an exception not due to automation but due to the company (Boeing) mishandling the situation where they knew that this problem could occur on these airplane models. The same could happen to Volvo's automation if the brand does not handle these type of issues properly. But this is the way forward.

I don't have an issue with fly by wire. In manual mode the pilot moves the stick and pedals as if they were mechanically connected. The system reacts only to his inputs. The problem with automated systems is that the system reacts to inputs from sensors. In the Boeing case it seems the sensor was giving incorrect information, which the pilot couldn't overcome.Yes I know the manual system is still digital and software driven, but, in the case of Airbus there are three computers checking each other.

Even the way my rear wiper sweeps the rear screen when I select reverse without having remebered I must switch off the front wipers before doing so unless I actually do want the rear screen swept - P1SSES ME OFF! It gets right on my bloody nerves! What are they saving me? A button push? Somebody shoot these idiots!! The way I figure it; I've got a technology four and a half billion years in development, enabling me to decide whether to wipe my rear screen or not. But in one overpaid late-night cum-squirt, some volvo geek deems himself able to improve upon that. Can you say deluded? Last edited by canis; Mar 23rd, 2019 at 05:56. |

The age old problem:
They are so concerned with if they “could” do something, they never stop to think if they “should” do it. |

But I do wholeheartedly agree with the quote that 'It's not okay to depict a technology making negligent driving acceptable'. Incidentally - the feature that does fall into your Volvo geek category is dimable interior lights. I have never sat in a car and thought 'these lights are a tad too bright...'

I would feel way more comfortable using the PA2 if I knew that the car could take control over speed/brakes/steering in an event where no driver input was detected- as oppose to simply flashing a message on the driver display and turning the PA2 off- leaving my (and my family’s..) lives in the hands of God and inertia..
