Don't have it on either cars and it's turned off on the works van.
The thing that really really bugs me are the wipers on the works sprinter, on slow wipe when you stop at a junction they switch to intermittent. Whatever moron thought that was a good idea needs shooting. Stop start may be annoying, wipers switching to intermittent at junctions is plain dangerous. Paul. |

I have V70 D5 Man. 2015MY. I too LOATH the EPB; it was almost a deal breaker for me. Three years in my contempt for the designers and engineers who installed the system, and then chose one of the most ridiculous positions for the activation mechanism possible is only increasing.
I dislike the stop start too, but can disable the system with the button on the lower dash, but I soon discovered my old school habit of standing at a junction/traffic light with my foot on the clutch disables the system just the same. As I have gotten on my soap box I might as well add that I HATE the trend to compulsory auto gear boxes in this market segment - rant over - thank you.. Cheers Bob |

constant stop/starting is not good for any engine, especially diesels.
and I question the alleged reduction in pollution this achieves. Iain

It should be fairly obvious that an engine at standstill pollutes less than one that's running.
The parking brake lever is where it is for the sake of consistency. It's in the same place as the release lever for those with a foot pedal for to apply the parking brake with. Personally, I don't think it matters so much where it is. Before the automatic wipers, I manually frequently switched to intermittent when I stopped the car in a crossing or something. Now my car adapts to the amount of rain by itself, of course. |

I use the automatic wiper function every time it's raining. Works very well, in my opinion. Usually can use the same sensitivity setting for 98% of all conditions. The only thing it can't handle is certain types of snowfall, as it tends to obscure the view without making the windscreen wet enough for the sensor to notice it.

Whilst I'm not advercating going back to the time when the driver had to manually adjust the advance and retard of the ignition while driving, if I am behind the wheel, I prefer and enjoy controlling all the car functions how I want. Not have them controlled by some Swedish algorithm, which WILL at some stage suck the last little bits of pleasure that remain in the activity of driving. Its bad enough having a co-pilot, at least she can be ignored (at my own peril) but many of these modern "conveniences" are there because some designer/engineer can do them, and for me spoil the pleasure of driving a car.
I appreciate there are many who do not share my view, perhaps if I had to drive 30K miles a year again I may rethink my position. But when I did drive those mileages, the only "convenience" I used regularly was cruise control, due to the long boring motorway sections. Cheers Bob |

First thing I do after starting the engine on my wife's Mini is switch off the Stop/Start, I hate it. It's not a new invention I remember to back in the 80s when VW advertised it as the latest fuel saving device on the Polo Formel E and there were plenty times Polo owners were stranded at traffic lights when batteries & starter motors failed...

My 2012 doesn't have stop/start, which is just great by me. I like the auto wipers and, unlike the auto wipers on my previous cars of 15 years, the sensitivity setting at least allows me to have some influence on the way the things work. I also like the automatic headlights and the automatic rear view mirror dimming. I love the ability to totally close all the windows and the sunroof from the key fob. I didn't realise how great this was until I drove in the USA where this feature is banned but total opening is allowed and can be accidentally triggered but not rectified without getting back in the car and doing it all by hand! I love being able to drop the rear seat headrests from the dashboard. I like the automatic heating of the rear mirrors when the rear screen is demisted.
I also like the automatic gearbox but I'm not impressed with engine braking when Sports Mode is engaged. You have to brake the car to a slower speed before the gearbox gets the message which is a step back from my previous cars which had more sophisticated ZF auto boxes. I like the automatic release of the EPB although I hate having to fasten my seat belt before it can work. That is decidedly Nanny Volvo. The position of the control is not very user friendly but I have developed a method of engaging the brake with my toe! I love the automatic memory adjustment of the drivers seat but feel that not having the same for the passenger is somewhat cheese paring! Even my last cars had that over 15 years ago! I don't like the fact that the seat heaters automatically come back on at the previously selected setting regardless of changes in the weather since last using the car. They ought to automatically turn off when the ignition is turned off and not come back on again unless demanded. I love the way you can open the tailgate from the driver's seat but I cannot wait to get Evgeny's replacement module so that I can also shut it again without having to get out of the car and walk all the way to the back! So, on balance, I like the labour saving gadgets and if any of my adverse comments can trigger the development of modification kits to make the stuff work as I would have preferred Volvo to have supplied it, then I'd like that too! Sorry, that's a much longer posting than I had intended to write!
