First of all, start the car to make sure it will go, before committing to any further work.
Once started, heater on full to the front screen and rear heated window on. Then go out and scrape the windscreen and front side windows. Ensure the mirrors are also clear.

Once this is all done and clear, we are ready to roll.

Side + tailgate & door mirror have a hydrophobic coating on
https://www.gtechniq.co.uk/shop/auto...ncy-glass-kit/

any ice that does form is so thin it nearly needs no scraping at all

start engine,, full demist on windscreen , elec defroster on for mirrors/tailgate ,
walk round wipe ice off side windows by then the front has started to defrost, scrape it clear

*no coating on the windscreen,

Just start the car up with the windscreen demister on and get out and scrape. Doesn't take long, we don't live in Alaska afterall

My car is parked fairly close to the house, so I just thread an extension lead through the letterbox, and put a 2kw fan heater in the car for 10 minutes or so.

It defrosts all the windows, and also gives a nice warm cabin to get into!

And doesn’t flatten car battery, or require the engine to tick over, which I’ve always understood was not ideal for the car.

Always been a grey area as to whether a car should tick over or not. I prefer to start mine & let the oil circulate for a few minutes before driving though on these cold/frosty mornings.
