S40 2.0D engine not turning off

Hi there,

Twice over the last week I've turned the key off at the ignition and left the key in, to allow the music to stay playing while I'm getting ready to get out and the engine hasn't gone off!

The first time I noticed when I took my foot off the clutch to get out and it stalled, ( I couldn't hear it running over the music) The second time, I noticed it, all the guages were reading 0, so I switched the ignition back on and it was back to as if it was running normally. This time when I turned the key off, it went off as normal!

Any ideas?!

probably the ignition switch , volvo had 2 goes at getting it reliable from 2005 to 2008 . you will get the latest one when you buy one..

So what kind of price am I looking at to get it changed over to the latest one? Not from a dealer ideally, a volvo specialist or something?

Also, is this likely to get to the point where the car won't start? Or it just an issue with it switching off? If it's the former it obviously needs to be done asap.

The normal symptom when faulty is not cranking , but if you are stuck , try it up to 50 times and you might just be lucky to get it going .
