Default Noise...in particular road noise !!!

I have recently purchased a Volvo V90 R-design 2018 D4 model and find it quite noisy having just come from a Range Rover Sport 2011 model.
The noise is road noise and seems to be tyre related as I have managed to reduce it slightly by rotating the tyres, front to back, but it's still quite loud.
I have stripped out the boot space and added damping to the bare metalwork...again this has had some effect, but has not made a very significant difference....it's certainly a lot more bearable.
I am considering adding more damping to the doors, under floor carpets etc. but there is a lack of information online as to disassembly procedures and it's obviously time-consuming as well.
Has anyone else had this issue and have recommendations for cures and or best tyres to fit when the time comes to change them?
Thanks in anticipation.

You say the situation improved slightly when you rotated the tyres.
It begs the question, what tyres do you have fitted?
Size,
Condition?
Tyre pressures?

I havent found Volvos to be particularly noisy when compared to previously owned Jaguars, and BMW's.

They are certainly more comfortable.

I totally endorse Mr Frog's comments.

The other question that strikes me is: did you drive the car before purchase?

Regardless, in terms of tyres, I recommend Goodyear All Seasons Vector 4. They are very quiet and comfortable. But if you've inherited big rims, they may not even be an option.

Am now waiting for howls of derision from the "performance" tyre aficionados on here......

Avoid Continental tyres even the Contisilent tyres are noisy. Bad.

I have the same car with 20" wheels and the tyre noise isn't too noticeable. Check the sidewall for the mark "VOL" to see if it's fitted with the correct tyres, as these ones have foam on the insides to reduce noise. I'm not sure if this applies to other tyre sizes but a 2018 car should be on the OEM rear tyres at least, so this might explain why the noise got better when you rotated them.

I too have R20's (235 35 r20) on my V90 with Pirelli Zero's on them, I dont find them particularly noisy.
I have to admit that I havent had the chance to try any other tyres on my car as yet. I can only afford to do that every couple of years.
Also I would not have chosen these wheels, as my low profile tyre days are now behind me, preferring comfort to sharp handling. A little more rubber would be better, especially with the present condition of our roads in mind.

Just to help you on to a solution,

How old are the tires?
How much tread is left?
What size are they?
What brand are they?

Yes thanks for the replies...been busy with grandchildren amongst other things.

No I didn't drive the car before purchase as it's a fairly new vehicle I did not expect any issues, however the water bottle level sensor was faulty which has been changed under warranty.

My Range Rover Sport was, I suppose, very quiet so it may be that I'm not used to this type of noise. I needed a change to something a bit cheaper to run.
I have had many cars over the years as I tend to change them after a year or two and this is the noisiest I can remember for road noise.
I also used to drive works vans and even these were pretty good apart from the odd rattle.

Tyres are all Pirelli P-Zero in good condition 245/45/18. I have tried adjusting tyre pressures, but this did not seem to do much so I have now adjusted all to the recommended pressure 33psi.

The car had not been used between January and July so I'm wondering if the tyres have suffered slightly from being left standing due to Covid.
