FOR SALE: Volvo 240 SE Estate - 1990 / J
Having just bought my Amazon I now have to sell my trusy old 240. I have owned it since 2004 and it's been brilliant. Here are some details:
Dark blue Volvo 240 Estate, beige interior. 184,000 miles Manual transmission 2.0 injection engine (Bosche LH 2.4 system) Nice reg for a 240 owner - J240 MLK Witter tow bar, single electric point Full service history - I have a file with a receipt for everything in it The bodywork is excellent, there isn't a spot of rust on it. The paintwork is dull in places but not faded. All tyres are good, the front two are nearly new. The interior is good but a little worn, particularly the drivers seat - a good clean could probably sort this. The car has always had rubber floor mats fitted. Recent work (in the last few years) Pair of new headlights (therefore new reflectors) Rear KYB shocks and Lesjofors springs - new standard bushes New Jetex Sports Exhaust (just as quiet as the OEM one but much better built) New water pump New radiator and thermostat New tailgate wiring loom Cyl head skimmed and reconditioned (at around 150,000 miles) I replaced the bonnet and headlight panel in 2007 when I had a small shunt. They are a slightly different shade of metallic blue to the rest of the car. The engine is strong - I have had 35mpg out of it at times but my usual consumption is around 31mpg. The windscreen has a crack at the top and has had for years, it's not growing and as never failed an MOT because of it. It will be due a cambelt at the end of 2010 (based on time not mileage - it was last changed at 150,000). That is the only work I can see it needing in the future, the screen will be fine. The drivers heated seat doesn't work properly, but the electrically adjustable and heated mirrors do (I replaced one back in May). The original Volvo audio works too, although the tape player squeaks a bit. I am asking £500 and will put it through the MOT soon - it will therefore be sold with 12 months MOT but no tax. If it doesn't sell here it will go on eBay. PM for more details or to arrange viewing. I am based in Beeston, Nottingham, UK. David |

This is still for sale, now with 12 Months MOT.
It needed new front brake pads and a couple of suspension bushes to pass. The only advisories were the chip in the windscreen (as above) and the rear discs are slightly pitted. Still £500. Tax till the end of December. David |

Thanks guys. It's cheap considering what I have put into it over the years, but the actual value of the car never comes close to the sum of its parts!
I maintained it with the mindset of never getting rid of it and making it last forever, the trouble was I *really* wanted an Amazon and I can't have both. |
