It does sound that way doesn't it haha, nothing could be further from the truth lol don't know when I'm gunna find the time to do it all! I want to strip the brakes down to paint them but that's down the line when I get the wheels done. Baby steps for now lol

So today I went to the old man's house and started on the service. Didn't get the fuel filter done but sorted the rest

Check out the colour of that!

The benefits of having a 3/4 inch socket set and 36mm socket haha

Pretty sure this isn't meant to look like this lol

That's better

Ready to fill with 6 litres of Gulf ACEA A5 oil (after checking I put the sump nut back with a new washer!!!) just one more thing to do

This was a mare to clear but with a few attempts and techniques I managed it!

Worked though so we are good for the next few months and 18,000 miles

When I got home another parcel arrived containing these goodies to add to my detailing arsenal

Can't wait to get started as I haven used some of these before hence sample sizes but some are top ups

Now I have to find the time to do it, oh and the wheels, and the fuel filter, and I'll be taking off the silver valences to paint them now I know how they come off, oh and while I'm there.......

I can now see Sean why you were sounding so excited in the other thread. Very nice looking XC and I'm sure your dog will love all that space. One major reason we stuck with a V70 was our having a large golden retriever and so few estates nowadays have the square back like the Volvo's do.

Enjoy your new car !

Cheers Yes Lucky loves the space even though he does share it with a pram and a change bag as well as some of his toys, tennis balls, bowls and water! I've just chucked an old mat in the boot for now until the Hatchbag arrives to keep the whole area clean. We've gone for the one that attaches to the rear seats and folds and I've regular got the centre seat down for long loads.

We are both loving the car ATM, so nice to drive and very comfy at last, first time I've been properly comfy driving since I was 18 as the seats are sublime as usual and the auto box makes life easy with my back which is not doing so bad these days but it's still a lifelong problem

Your V70 looks the biz too!!!

Yes, the air filter wasn't great though I have seen worse! The service was 900 miles overdue but date wise it wasn't due till the end of the month. I try and look after the cars because I do like to keep them tidy and fresh, though they don't always reward me with reliability! I hope this one does haha.

The samples do look funny colours don't they lol, they are part of a CarPro cube, £20 for 9 samples. Only chose samples as its only my car I want them for haha. I was going coat it with Gyeon Q2 Cancoat but I might go down the whole CarPro route and coat it with C.Quartz instead as it is more permanent and is even easier to maintain

And today, more XC antics! Starting with the fuel filter I ran out of time to do yesterday.

Yes, under the rear wheel arch it is. I imagine this to be much easier on a 2 wheel drive car, as anyone who has changed one will know the diesel spills over the anti roll bar but it's also easier to swing the 32mm spanner to undo the bowl if the rear driveshaft isn't in the way!

And while I was here I decided to pre fill the bowl with wynns diesel injector cleaner. So glad I did, the car is smoother, noticeably so and more responsive; even Laura noticed it

Then I decided to start on the worst wheel, the drivers side front.

I started by pre soaking in AF Imperial and jet washing before making physical contact with the paint. Then I broke out the Iron-X

After 30 seconds

After 1 min

And then that was jetted off, followed by another wash with AF Imperial via the pump sprayer and wipe over with Tar-X and we have

And the patch I want to improve

Sanded

Primed

Done

It's polish on the tyre, but hold on. I polished the wheels with Menz FG5000 on the DA with a 3 inch spot pad to get a perfect finish so you will notice the scratch by the XC logo is now gone! I must stress this is only a temporary improvement as intend to have the wheels stripped and repainted next year but they are in great condition!

Next 3 coats of CarPro PERL diluted 1:1 and force cured with Laura's old hair dryer Love this tyre shine as it leaves a stunning as new finish without being sticky.

Then the brake caliper needed seeing to so it was time to clean and mask

Then 2 coats of high temp silver and we have

A quick polish of the wheel bolts...

And all done

Again I stress it is a temporary repair!

I made a start on the back too, same idea but I haven't done the wheel so the car is on it's space saver until tomorrow haha

Masked

Painted

And all done and this is where we are; more tomorrow

Really liking what you've done there Sean, particularly with the brake callipers as this is something I feel could be done with my V70. How did you prep them before painting?

Cheers fella, I wire brushed them then sanded with 120 grit paper, wipe over with a tack cloth and mask up. I used a very high temp silver spray; on my S40 I used black but I regretted it as I usually use silver because it stands out more Just doing the other side now!
