Default Adblue

This is the first time I’ve had a car that uses adblue so I don’t know what to expect.
For the first 1000 miles nothing change in the cars message centre, but after towing my caravan over the A66 and home to hamilton the car says I’ve used 2.4 . The car has just over 1500miles on the clock now.
Is this a normal amount of adblue to use?

Not sure what you mean by 2.4?

A full tank lasts me 6K on my D4. Not too many short journeys, mostly motorway.

I have an S90 D4, I've done approx 7500 miles and the Adblue level has only dropped 1 segment. According to the manual each segment is 25% and it's an 11.5ltr tank. I've used somewhere between 3 and 6ltrs (probably nearer to the latter now) and therefore must be using approx 1ltr per 1500 miles.

I should add that I'm also getting around 50mpg and I guess your XC90 isn't doing anything like that, especially pulling a van... so perhaps your adblue usage is about right?

Default Adblue levels

Hi, am I correct in thinking that the electronic gauge for the adblue only reads, full, three quarters, half, and quarter or does it show the actual level like the oil gauge.

I have covered almost 10,000 miles in my V60 D4 and it has been showing half on the adblue gauge for the last 2,000 miles.
Having read about crystals forming in the adblue and adblue injector blocking this item, I was concerned that perhaps this was happening to my car.

My average fuel consumtion, since delivery in March, is a little over 52 mpg

Pete.

I take it you do most of your miles on a motorway to get thst kind of mileage?

Default Mpg

Yes most of my journeys are on A roads and motorways, but it does go to the supermarket and retail parks as well.

I always fill up with the cheapest diesel I can find and this is nearly always from Sainsburys.

My best brim to brim was 57.62 mpg over 609 miles, and my worst was 45.15 over 485 miles when the car was new and the engine tight.

Let’s just knock a few figures out from an educated guess.

1500 miles at say 34mpg average considering towing for 500 of those means 44 gallons consumed. That’s 200 litres.

At a very reasonable average of 3% Adblue consumption relative to fuel, it works out simply to a theoretical 6 litres of Adblue could be consumed. Less fuel consumed would normally mean less Adblue consumed, and light use would mean an even lesser percentage and volume consumed again.

So in a car such as the XC90, used for a fair bit of towing, I would expect anything from 3 to 6 litres of Adblue to be consumed over 1500 miles.

If it uses less, then Volvo have chosen to still use a high rate of EGR in their particular compromise in order to minimise Adblue consumption and still comfortably exceed emission’s targets.

My D4 has just come back from the dealer for exactly that. Fortunately, it was covered by warranty as the vehicle is only a year old

XC60 - 1800` towing caravan and 3700` solo used 75% of the Ad Blue. Low Ad Blue Alarm showed when one quarter remained. Volvo uses quite a bit more Ad Blue than a Merc GLC although I never owned the Merc following re programming after the cheating issues.
