Hello.

I have a very intermittant fault where the car will cut out coming to junctions, round abouts etc. E.G you will slow down and the rev will drop off, cleaned ICV etc.. this is very int happens maybe once if 400 miles.

I have read the fault codes and erased them then drove car till it happened then read the fault codes again, I get

P0017 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor B

What does this point towards in english lol

Cheers for any help

Car seems to be running o.k i do 250 + miles a week, just passed its mot and was serviced a month ago.

Cheers

Chris

.....i had the PO015 code, which is still Camshaft Position Sensor, but timing over retarded.......i replaced mine and the cost was £37 from Volvo......what a ba**ard to change or get at.......only the casing and sensor is supplied, NOT the trigger inside the casing......the performance increase was worth the effort and money..........

.......it`s at the right hand side of the engine from the front ( battery end), and lurks under the rear camshaft cover behind that plastic curly thing that protects the sensor wires.......you will see if you take off the plastic cover at the centre bulkhead where the sensors are on the bracket, i think it`s the next to last on the right hand side, then follow the wire down to the engine....

...sorry!!...made a boob there, i paid £120 then VAT for mine, i got mixed up with the temp. sensor.....how to remove and replace in the Haynes manual is under Fuel System(Except GDI) page 4A . 10,......according to Vadis you have to connect a breakout box and at all the different terminals on it while the engine is running all the sensors specification can be checked....for the CMP they give signal reading as, DCvolts = 0v to 5v depending on the revs......frequency = 6 -7Hz , pulse ratio = 50%.......

......it is entirely up to you if you clean it!!.....i suppose you could put a meter on the plug end wires and see if there is an open circuit or not, this may give you an idea?.....for your money you get the alloy cap with the sensor in it and of course the wire with the plug on, you don`t get the internal trigger wheel which you don`t want to remove, so therefore you don`t have to take off the top cover at the belt end to lock the exhaust camshaft or take off the fuel rail as Haynes says...by the time you have spent a ba***rd of an hour trying to do it, and nothing has been achieved, you may well wished you had fitted a new one.......only the two bolts come out to remove the alloy cap with the sensor attached......the way i look at it is the fact that you have a nice T4 sport why not treat it to a new CMP sensor as when i changed mine i noticed a performance difference as everything was happening at the correct time, it also starts easier, as the ECU knows when No. 1 cylinder is on the combustion stroke......you cannot substitute a bodge for a broken sensor on these modern cars......i have renewed all my sensors, as the car although has only done now 115000mls the sensors were 11yrs old, i just bit the bullet and did them..........Hope this helps?....
