240 GLT 1990/H - Buy it or it'll probably be scrappaged
I've started working at a new place and now have a 50 miles/day commute. I don't use my Volvo very often and it isn't really necessary for me to have it. I will soon have owned it for a year and seeing as it has plenty of MoT left, it will be eminently eligible for the scrappage scheme. It will get me a hefty discount on a BMW 116i, which will be much more suitable for the mileage I'm currently doing than the selection of old bangers I'm trying to use for the job.
So here's the car: 1990/H Volvo 240 GLT estate 5-speed manual 194,000 miles Full service history - not done more than 1000 miles since last serviced MoT until mid-June 2010 Recently had two new Goodyear Excellence front tyres Leather interior in generally good condition Towbar 7-seater Electric windows front & rear Pop-up dealer-fit sunroof Faults I'm aware of: - Starter motor noisy and occasionally jams - new starter motor would be included with sale, I haven't been able to get the old one off because the bolts are awkward to get at and I don't have much time for that sort of thing. - Slight blow from exhaust - Heated seats don't work - Steering wheel isn't straight when you're driving (tracking has been done, I presume they didn't bother aligning the steering wheel properly). In my ownership I have fitted 13cm front speakers, a new Volvo aerial, a new rear light cluster lens and had several hundred (maybe even £1000) pounds' worth of work done to service the car properly and get it running right, including new engine mounts and work to the fuel injection system. I bought it because I've always loved these cars and needed a load-lugger while I was moving into my house last year. It is currently taxed until the end of August next year If you want to save the car from being scrapped I will sell it for £650 plus the cost of the tax disc at face value (£175). Some pictures (I will try to take some more): |

haha! Thats actuallynot true - of the later ones I would only go for a glt really - admittedly though I want any early model
This is a H-plate GLT estate in graphite grey which is a pretty rare thing these days. If I wasnt just starting an apprenticeship and didnt have other things going on in my life, I would have it, but unfortunately thats not the case, so i cant. Steve

That and the fact it has a bloody awful porthole sunroof, I hate those things, many a good car roof has been ruined with one of those.

Any chance I could have your folding seats in the back if you go for the scrappage option?

Would probably arrange a courier (I'm in N.Ireland), used them before to pick up a set of GLT alloys and they were very good.
Let me know your price for the seats if you do end up scrapping and I'll get back to you Thanks for your help! |

I really hope that someone buys it!
Did you buy the car from Peter Simpson? I remember seeing a car very much like it in his eBay shop last year For the record, The Volvo and TV2 were bought from Peter, and they have been excellent
