Default New tyres and tracking quiry

Hello,

I have finally replaced my poor budget tyres with four new michelin pilots, at the same time i had the tracking done. All seems fine other than the steering wheel is not lined up straight when the car is travelling in a straight line, if you see what i mean! I assume this is connected to the tracking and can be sorted out when I go back in a couple of weeks to have it rechecked, or is something else up?

Thanks

Andrew

Probably just the steerung wheel wasn't held straight as the tracking was done. Take it back, as I guess you paid a lot for it to be done!

I had exactly the same problem. Went to Volvo and got it sorted. Nothing wrong with the tracking, just the steering wheel wasn't locked in straight position during work. Sounds like a shoddy job to me. I never allow tyre fitters to do the tracking, they invariably get it wrong. Volvo use more sophisticated better equipment, or should do. Don't bother getting the same people to do it again unless you've loads of time to spare. Get the pros to do it, ask them for a computer print out of the difference and take it along to the original guys for a refund. They will groan and moan, but should agree to some sort of credit off your next tyres.

A mistake worth the price of a nice dinner for 2 I suspect.

go to a reputable garage with 4 wheel alingement should cost about 40 quid and sort your problems.

most also give a printout of before and after settings.

Some places describe themselves as 5 wheel alignment (or 3) meaning that they end up with the steering wheel centralised when the front wheels have been adjusted. All that needs done is to adjust the tracking equally both sides, instead of only one side which throws the steering wheel off centre.
