Default Fuel flap locked...

My 96 850 saloon has decided it doesnt need petrol. The fuel flap has locked and wont open after various locking/unlocking of the car. Any ideas how I can release this without the aid of a screwdriver? Searched the forums already and only a wire pulling workaround has been suggested.
I'm guessing this mechanism must be electrical? This week my radio displayed "CODE" for some reason but battery power has not been lost.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Remove the panel in the boot to gain access to the light cluster next to the filler flap. You should see a pull-cord. Pull it.

There's an illustrated guide in the handbook.

(I'm assuming the procedure is the same as for the 70 series).

Cheers, did this and all is back to normal. One of the replies in the other thread said they had to do this everytime so I was thinking there was another fix. Mine is locking/unlocking normally now.

Thanks

I'd oil the mechanism to prevent a recurrence of the problem.

Is there anything else that could prevent the fuel flap from unlocking? I have oiled the pull wire but still have problems with unlocking the fuel flap by remote unlocking of the doors.
