Default Annoying Creaking Sound

Hi,

I have had my 855SE auto for a week now and am very pleased with it.
Only slight problem is an annoying creaking from the front at low speeds over bumpy ground, especially speed bumps, only starts after a couple of miles. It sounds like creaky springs. Has anyone else had similar creaks? Mine has done 104,000 miles.

Thanks.

Hi ya,

The creaking sound and with speed bumps normally means the LINK-RODS that connect the antiroll bar to the Front Struts as a guess. From Volvo they are around £40 quid but i think europarts do them much cheaper.

If you are attempting the job yourself they have changed the design and now take my twice as long to do. Anyway i would replace both as i know one goes the other soon follows, which as happen in the past. They don't last long to be honest either which is a pain, depending on the terrain and milage you do.

Jack the car up, take wheel off. You need a secondary jack underneath the Control arm to loosen the tention off the link. Undo the two bolts one on the antiroll, the other mid way up the Strut. Fit as they say in reverse.

New design is a spanner and Torq key.

I used to be able to do it in 10mins aside.

Mark.

My car (855 turbo) did this as well. Took it to the dealer and they tightened the front hub nut (for free!). If is comes back you need to replace the hub nut, but this is not expensive.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I had the link rods replaced and the creaking has gone as well as a rattle that had developed. Parts were £10 plus vat each from German French & Swedish.

Cheers...

I had this on my car over speed bumps at low speeds. Initially changed the link rod, but this did not resolve the problem. Took the car to another garage who knew straightaway that it was the front strut mounts from the sound. Got these changed and cured the car + sharpened up the steering as well.
