Help

My traction control apears not to work. If I give it too much right foot then the wheels just spin. No lights on on the dashboard, just the sound of spinning wheels.

I am sure that when I got the car, 10k ago the traction control cut in a couple of times but alas no more. It isas if I have managed to turn it off by accident!

Has anybody got any ideas?

Cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong, but traction control won't prevent your wheels from spinning if your right foot goes down too heavily. You should try driving with TRACS OFF and see what difference you notice.

TRACS really comes into play in difficult driving conditions, such as wet and icy weather. Also, they do not come into play below 50 KPH: I think?.

It is extremely rare for TRACS to fail, and when it does, it's usually a problem with the Engine managment chip. If it were a mechanical failure, then you probably would know about it immediately

I thought the original TRACS just braked the wheel rather than reducing torque to the wheel.
On my 850 estate I can still spin a wheel on certain bits of road when pulling away with a VERY heavy right foot and clutch.

TRACS will only work if one wheel is spinning faster than the other (coming out of corner), if you're accelerating in a straight line it will never do anything.

It applies the ABS to the spinning front wheel but only up to speeds of 30mph.

If your talking about DSTC (or whatever it's called) that can actually reduce engine torque and I'm pretty sure it monitors spin in a straight line too.
