Default MY2018 XC60 12v Battery Charging Fault

I’ve had my XC60 for a month and covered 800 miles without issue until, with no warning, it threw this error:

12V Battery Charging Fault
Stop immediately

Quickly followed by a cascade of electrical issues including the indicators and then the wipers stopping working. Car was undriveable and so was hauled off to the dealers to fix it.

The explanation I’ve been given is that the battery control module wasn’t communicating with the rest of the car. The dealer has reset the system, and it seems to be working for now but I suspect it will happen again.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yes. With Microsoft Windows software

Generally the problem comes back sometime and is only resolved when a new software update is released. True for anything built using software, be it iPhone, PC or car.

In other words, ensure all the software in the entire vehicle is up to date, and if not, get it updated.
Dealer only due to the download and reflash process.
