Default t4 auto box reliability

hi all thinking about buying a p1 t4 auto but unsure
about reliability of the auto box against a manual one and also
if the box would cope with any extra power if i decided to do any engine
mods etc. any advise on t4 with auto box would be appreciated or any advise
on what to look for on a t4 when buying. car I've got at moment
is a v40 2.0t manual so would expect a few similarities to the t4

Cool

If you increase the engine power you reduce the life expectancy of both the engine and transmission. Auto boxes in particular don't like sustained high power as it cooks up the fluid. There is not much can be done about increased clutch wear without spending big bucks, but with both auto and manual boxes it helps to change the fluid or oil to the best that is available, which is probably going to be from Volvo, but do check with some boy racer types and the Castrol or Liqui Moly oil finder guides, because there may be a higher spec product available for use in hot climates.

If the auto box is old and the fluid dirty, then do the fluid drain twice with a good long drive in between, because you can only drain about half in one go.
The local transmission specialist might have a flushing machine, but count your fingers and tell them you want a sample of the final fluid drain because they have a bad habit of not using the correct flush chemical, as it's not cheap. Also agree a fixed price in terms of the fluid required to fill the box again.

I've got a T4 that is an auto and as said in the previous post change the ATF and make sure it is the right spec!!
I saw a T4 5 speed auto on flea bay that sold with 220000 miles.

Mine has had a MTE stage 2 Map full exhaust and race cat running on 18 psi at the moment.
