Default V70 2008 Stop/Start Key Control swapout

The unit in which I place the key is failing. It accepts the key and sucks it in, but does not release. Its like the mechanism where you push the key in and then it spits it out, isn't active.

I have looked inside and there is no debris, or broken bits preventing the mechanism.

I have to manually yank out the keyfob, sometimes then having to push it back in, switch the engine on then off, then pull it out, in order for the central locking buttons to work on the fob. Its a PITA!

Can I simply swapout the START/STOP unit? I believe its part no. 6G9N-11572-DK

My other query is, will I have to get new keyfobs, or get them reprogrammed, or is the actual keycoding dealt with by the EMS, and not the Start/Stop unit itself.

Thanks for any help / guidance.

Thanks ShadeTek.

The replacement is fairly straight forward ( a bit fiddly), but I am more worried about the programming of the key and whether I need to get a new key to match the module swap or whether the old will still work.

When you use the remote as a remote, it's not in the lock. The radio receiver in the car isn't associated with the lock. From this it should be very likely that the code associations are stored elsewhere than in the lock mechanism itself.

So although I don't know for sure, I find it very probable that you can replace the lock mechanism without any key programming being required.

Hi apersson850, thats a very good point. I suspect there is only one way to see for sure... so I will have a go at replacing the unit alone and get back to the forum when its done, and let you know that your right! Cheers.

Why bother with the dashboard fob holder? As long as the key fob is in your pocket when you sit in the drivers seat the car will start and run.

Only if it’s a full keyless system, otherwise the key still has to be inserted in the holder...

Yes, and if you run out of battery in the remote, then you have to insert it into the slot to make the car start, even if it's a full keyless system. That's you "limp home" method.
