It depends if it is one of the early Phase 1 models without the CEm, in which case look at the diagram I posted in post 6. If however you a later Phase 1 with the CEM, then the relay is inside the CEM

It shows only the rear wiper relay. I have s40 and no cem. I think I have that central locking relay there.nr.8

Oh, sorry for this. I missed the "front wiper" bit. I thought you were asking about the rear. Let me have a look in VIDA and I will let you know shortly

Ok, just checked and I can't find anything about the front wipers relay. There is definitely nothing in that list I posted in post 6 adn when I did a general search, I could still find nothing.

Have you checked the fusebox in the engine bay? If you check the cover, it lists what each fuse and relay is for.

Sorry I can't be of any more help, but I have never owned a pre-CEM S/V40

Ok, thank you. That relay seems to be a mystery. If I remember right it is not in the fusebox in engine bay.

Had a deeper look in vida in the troubleshooting area and there is absolutely nothing about the front wipers. It is ridiculous. Lots of info for the post 1999 CEM models

Haynes manual seems to suggest the semiconductor electrickery is actually in the wiper switch. The rear wiper is definitely a seperate relay module, and it's the same on our 1998 model - under the dashboard near the steering column.

I've crawled all over this car in the last few years, and I've not seen a relay for the front wipers either. So I'm inclined to believe it's true. It makes sense if you think about it, since delayed front wipers was almost certainly a default option, whereas the rear wiper was only on estates.

I've got a spare somewhere. I'll do some digging tomorrow, hopefully I can find it. I'll test it and see what I can find out. You might need a new stalk.

After a thorough investigation, I can confirm there is no delay relay in the stalk. At least, not in the one I took apart. Destroyed actually, but it was a noble death. It gave it's body to science.

In fact, there are no semiconductors in the switch whatsoever. Although complicated, it contains nothing more than brass strips, it literally is just a switch.

Which means it's still out there! Where are the delay electronics on a phase 1?
