Hi all, finally got round to ordering some clear lenses for my side markers as the final stage of my de orange-ing process, and although I know they are orange as standard, I just wondered if they had to be, because to me having clear/white bulbs the front and red at the back makes sense to me in terms of logic, but I'm wondering if that's ok in a legal sense, anyone know?

Thanks in advance

Amber. The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 states that optional side marker lights - which Volvo lights are - have to be the same colour as lights that are obligatory - HGV marker lights - which are amber. It is quite clearly stated in the regulations which is quite unusual.

Legally speaking they need to be the same amber colour:

(2) No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light, except–

(a) amber light from a direction indicator or side marker lamp;

Doesn't mean it's right though, look how many badly arranged number plates pass MOTs.

If you want clear lens's, but can't get amber bulbs you could always colour them with this stuff ...https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Granville....c100677.m4598

U can get W5w orange bulbs if not get a led with a 360 light angle and it does the job perfect 👌

Here is my foglights sidelights that are orange, also got led ones but rather the halogen ones.

Thanks everyone, I went for these in the end, I've used them before and if I remember right they maintain the right light pattern seeing how conventionally shaped they are compared to a filament bulb, I know they're not the brightest in comparison to cob Cree or even smd led units but all of those have a visible yellow section being the diodes themselves, plus as they're replacing 3w ones anyway they don't need to be silly brightness.
