Thanks Dancake. I was going to test it and possibly reuse, but after 23 years its past its best - and if it fails it could take out the head, so I'm playing safe

Mine is also 23 years old and I put it back on, only 59k miles and no leaks so I didn't see the point in changing it. Put it in a vice and take your time pressing the pin in, I did mine in small increments and it took about an hour turning the vice half a turn, leave for 5 minutes and do it again and repeat

Unless the hydraulic tensioner is obviously leaking there is no need to replace. My previous V40 had the same tensioner and that was still good after 370,000mls. Belts and idlers were changed on schedule but both tensioner and water pump were still original components

I'm doing the front oil seal and oil pump gaskets at the moment
only half way to belts and pulleys change, I'm changing the lot
including the perfectly functional water pump because I'm there
