S40 Rear Brake Pad Rattle
Hi Folks,
I've been a few years away from Volvo ownership. Just bought my wife a 2005 S40 1.8 Petrol. It's all good apart from a rattle at rear wheels over bumps. I have taken the pads out and they are newish, cheap and nasty, without springs. If you've changed the pads on yours and they were good, please let me have a link or the brand. I'd rather not buy Volvo ones at £60 just to cure a rattle and most sites just have generic pics of the pads. Many thanks, Carl

I put Bosch pads and disks on mine and have no complaints. I suspect that even the best pads will rattle if the antirattle springs are missing, so I'd start with sourcing the springs.

Thanks for replying.
I have the big springs for the inner pads. My understanding is that the pads themselves should have a spring on the outer edge of each pad. The current ones don't. Can anyone confirm this for me?

I fitted genuine Volvo disc and pads this year and only one pad has the spring.

I've ordered some Pagid ones, which I am assured are identical to the Volvo ones. I'll post results after fitting.

They should be fine.
I fitted them to the fronts with no issues and have used them on other cars and found them to be excellent I went with genuine Volvo for the rear brakes as i have heard reports of what you found when using some cheapo pads.
