Default Another misfiring V50

Hi,

I suspect the answer might be hook it up to Vida Dice but as I don't have that I thought I'd post a question in case it something obvious / something somebody recognises.

It's a 2006 V50 1.8 petrol - the one with the Focus engine. I bought it running rough, naively thinking that because I've been around the block a few times with cars and bikes it might not take too much to sort it out and get it running nicely again.

On tickover, it feels slightly rough through the steering wheel - like a very mild version of it maybe running on 3 cylinders. Then again, it's maybe just what they do. However - again while just sitting in neutral at tickover - it will take very gentle accelerator, but if you give the throttle a little stab it dies like it doesn't know what to do with this new scenario, and will then will kind of cough into a slight rev to about 2k once the stab's done and your foot's back off the accelerator. I suspect if you left your foot down it would just die and stop running. If it wasn't something run by an ECU I'd say it felt like vacuum advance being off.

I hooked it up to a generic OBD reader which reported the usual limp mode, also cam position sensor and MAP sensor issues. I've also been through the forums and between the two activities have done the following:
  • Changed out out the fuel pump for a good used one from a younger example of the car
  • Replaced the PCV valve and breather hose
  • Swapped in different coil packs
  • Put in a new cam position sensor
  • Put in a new MAP sensor (which was totally gummed up)
  • New air filter and intake system removed, checked and cleaned where pos.
  • Swapped in different swirl flap vacuum sensors (correctly hooked back up)

I cleared the codes and sparked it up and - while it's certainly running better than when I got it, it's still doing that die-when-given-a-stab-of-throttle thing. I don't have a strong inkling on what to try next. There's a good garage nearby but I'm not in a position to take it there yet - wings currently being replaced and the nose is still off it from removing the intake resonator box from under the wing.

Does anybody recognise the symptoms and know what fixed it for them? The engine itself looks to be OK mechanically and runs quietly enough, so I don't think it's valves etc.

Hope someone can help - thanks!
