Default 2008 V50 2.0 Diesel Requiring multiple attempts to start

Hi All!

New here, first post and it's a good one!

I have a 2008 V50 2.0 Diesel that requires multiple attempts to start when both warm and cold.

When turning the key, the fuel pump can be heard and it's making an attempt.to start but it's like it just won't fire up. After anywhere from a second to 10th attempt to start, it fires on the touch of the key (after I can hear a mini backfire underneath)

Diesel filter changed, fuel pump is fine, just serviced and no current alarms on the dash.

There was an alarm previously for communication error on the ignition but it has not returned.

Any idea what the cause could be?!

This has been going on for a couple of weeks to add!

Mine was reluctant to start, thought it was a leaky injector or fuel return pipe but garage correctly diagnosed a worn out and hence lazy starter motor

worth getting it checked.

Didn't think the 2.0 d had an electric fuel pump?
My 2005 hasn't. Just the mechanical fuel pump on the engine. Normally use a vacuum pump for priming after filter change.
Unless the later cars have an electric pump?

It is most likelythe plastic throttle flap sticking shut on the main air inlet on the manifold in front of you . Give it a sharp tap with a spanner just before you next go to start it ...to prove a point
