FM modulator

Hello and thank you for reading this message.

Does anyone have experience of an FM modulator, which is a device that can be plugged into the back of the radio between the radio and its antennae, and creates an Aux socket for mobile phone etc?

My car is a Volvo V50 '56 reg.

There's this unit:

The other option is to find a way to get my handsfree kit Nokia CK-7W to somehow stream internet from my mobile phone via its bluetooth connection, however the CK-7W unit appears not to have that function.

I have been looking into this myself, as have many others. Unfortunately if you have one of the earlier models without an AUX input your options are extremely limited to FM Bluetooth transmitters or very expensive aftermarket head units (Bluepower). I have been using one of the FM Bluetooth transmitters and it is pretty good with very good quality, although not as good as the inline one you are looking to install which I used to have in an older S40.

If you want to install an inline modulator I did find a very detailed guide and I was planning to do it on my own V50 until the gearbox failed, but that's another story.

Am deciding on an FM modulator. Needs power supply. Where would this connect to best? There's already a Bluetooth unit (from 2006) so could connect to same points.

I'd probably buy a fuse tap and find the switched circuit for the 12v cig lighter.

This thread was a massive help to me when I sorted mine. I took it to an auto electricians to get the modulator fitted, then had a 3.5mm plug put into it so I could plug the Pure Highway 400 straight into it for a much clearer connection (my car doesn't have aux or USB).

It may sound stupid though, but if you just have the AM/FM and CD buttons, just press the CD button and see what happens - I pressed mine about 9 months after I bought it and realised I already had bluetooth streaming! I can only guess someone has changed the buttons on the waterfall display at some point.

There's a switched 12V supply tap on the wiring harness in the trunk, near the antenna leads. The RF leads can be tapped into at the snap connectors on the glass. Some have found aftermarket sources for the actual plug type used to connect the antenna to the receiver.

I followed an online guide by Gregg Rocheford, and added the FM modulator and a Bluetooth receiver in the back right corner several years ago. It has been pretty smooth in operation since then.

I used a Kenwood KCA-20FM box. It may be discontinued now.

See my thread about my FM 'transmitter' apart from it being tricky to find a completely dead FM station to allow clear transmition I'd still say these are the best compromise, do not require any wiring, they provide 2 x USB ports for charging and even display your battery voltage:

Reason behind my question is I have one lying in one of the drawers and for sure I will not use it as both cars have aux in already.
If you interested I'll try to locate it and take a picture of it.
