Default Eco mode driving thoughts

Hi all. Just putting it out there but am I the only one that is strangely satisfied by the Eco Mode driving experience in my XC60?

The low revs, frequent coasting, early engine cut out as you glide to a stop and also delivering around 48 mpg (best indicated so far) on a 25 mile commuter run all leads to a relaxing and comfortable drive (the Volvo interior is a great place to be ).

I switched to Dynamic for a couple of days and although I did enjoy the improved response, I became strangely irritated by the fact that Auto Start/Stop didn't kick in at all and that I could only just hit 40 mpg on the commute!

On a long journey on mway or dual carriageway exco-mode is fine, with the exception that if it's a damp day and there are a few pasengers, the eco climate mode doesn't keep the car demisted.

You can set your individual drive mode up with dynamic engine mode and have stop/start activated as well, you can also set the steering and suspension up as you like it. I use individual drive mode instead of dynamic unless I want to have stop/start off (first run on cold dark morning until heater warm enough) then I use dynamic mode.

Eco Mode for us, nice and smooth, our rushing around days are long gone and it certainly matches the S90's persona.
Just as an aside, AirCon is only allowed to be switched on when we are going down hill or full demist is required. Is it just me? or are there any other nutters, sorry, mildly eccentrics out there?!!!!!!

What do you mean, mildly eccentric!

It all seems perfectly normal to me.

I tend to use the eco mode when on long motorway journeys, but find it a bit irritating when on slower roads because of the noticeable thump when coming out of coasting mode and reapplying the power; this has been much improved since my last software update, but is still there.
As others have pointed out, it is also poor in damp weather or when there are 2 or more occupants of the car because the windows mist badly.
I have not done an accurate check on fuel consumption, but it seems to be good for a couple of mpg when in eco.

I'm not putting my car in ECO to save half a mile a gallon and have a miserable driving experience! Playing the eco game is too stressful. Fill up enjoy the drive, when the fuel runs low fill up again.

It just stays in whatever mode it's in when I turn it on.

Thanks for the comment James. If it was only half mpg I would tend to agree with you but I reckon it's more like a 10% or more saving especially in rubbish traffic. That's about £150 pa which is a few rounds of golf!
