S40 2003 Drop Link Replacement
Hi all, I'm about to (perhaps!) replace one front and one rear anti-roll bar drop link on my 2003 S40 T Sport. The rear one had snapped at the top and the front O/S has a perishing rubber. My question (& I hope it's not a daft one!) is how to I torque up the nuts when I fit the new ones, because my torque wrench with socket will cover the balljoint shank, so I can't put the torx key in to stop it from spinning? I'm aware that I should use the T30 torx key to hold the shank still as I undo the nut, so I assume that I have to do the same when tightening the new nut on. Is there a special tool (e.g. a 'torque ring spanner' or such like) that I should use? Any guidance would be appreciated as the links are around £20 each, but my Volvo dealer wants £185 to change just the front one! That seems a bit steep when they're only undoing two nuts, swapping out a rod and doing two nuts up again :-) Thanks.

I've never torqued them, if they're tight then they're good, a good nip with a decent ratchet then one pull for luck will be fine, you'll also be exceedingly lucky if the old ones undo, as while a t30 is fine to hold it still until the nut bites when fitting new ones, the same isn't true when trying to undo an old one, there's nowhere near enough purchase on it, they almost always ring off and you end up either chopping the head off the entire thing or cutting the nut off with an angle grinder.
