Default Refurbed Wheels

Hi All,

Just had my Ixion alloys refurbished (diamond cut) it will be about a week or so before I wash them but when can I apply a wax/sealant? the guys said after about 4 weeks but ideally I want to get some kind of protection on them asap....

Would it hurt to do them earlier? Thanks,

Yes it would, the wheels will have been coated in 2k laquer after the cutting process, any wax or sealent will stop the solvents in the laquer from venting/gassing out for want of a better description, this normally takes up to 4 to 5 weeks so follow your refurbers advice.

Thanks all, he did say about the "gassing" so will just wash with warm water and the usual car shampoo (not using wheel cleaner anymore, I'm scared!)

When the recommended time from the refurb place has elapsed you may consider using
https://www.gtechniq.co.uk/shop/auto...-wheel-armour/

You DO need to follow the prep work instructions

Quote:
Wash and decontaminate your wheels with Gtechniq cleaning products including, W5 Citrus All Purpose Cleaner and W6 iron & Fallout Remover.
Wipe down each wheel before application with Gtechniq Panel Wipe – this will ensure the best possible bond. Please be careful with smart repairs on your wheels as this may strip the paintwork on them
Shake well before use and wear gloves
Soak the AP1 Lint Free Applicator pad provided with several drops of product, and spread the coating onto the surface of your rim – no more than ½ a wheel each time
Once you have spread the coating, buff residue within 30-60 seconds with an MF1 ZeroR Microfibre Buff Cloth
Repeat the process on all of your wheels
Allow the coating to cure indoors for 12 hours before exposing to the elements
Suitable for gloss, satin and matt rim finishes
Store in a cool, dry place
If opened, use within 3 months, if unopened, use within 12 months
you Can use alternate products , citrus cleaner/iron fall out removers and get the same results,

and DO note the advisory on the use of "panel wipe" (again other makes will do the job as well when you follow the instructions) for so called smart "repairs",,,

then it really is a case of "wash with car shampoo + rinse" for the next 2 - 2 1/2 years before needing to reapply

wont do a Thing to protect against kerbing damage tho

Thanks for that informative post, I will definitely consider that, I did already buy some poor boys wheel sealant before I had them done but your method sounds much more thorough
