[QUOTE=726PAV;2432074]Thanks James

Is there anyone on here who might be able to help find a pair of Euro 780 headlamps?

When I imported a 780 from Japan 2 years ago I asked my local dealer (Holdcroft in Stoke) about parts availability for this model and was pleasantly surprised at just how much stuff was still available for the 780 via Volvo Classic. My car was a Japanese market version and one of about 420 officially sold in Japan. Holdcroft told me that headlights for the Japan market cars were still available at just over £300 each + vat at the time. They would be ideal for your car as they are set for driving on the left. Might be worth a call to them?

Hi

Thank you for your replies - Really appreciated.

I'll check with the UK Volvo dealer network, I have previously been told they were no longer available, but the Japan Spec lights would be ideal I suspect, so will check again. If a used pair could be found, cheaper than than the £700+ a new set might cost, that'd be good!

Work is keeping me busy currently so I don't expect to get it on the road until September.

Importing a car that is 28 years old means I paid VAT, which I wouldn't have on a 30 yr old car (but I specifically wanted a late 780 Turbo and didn't feel inclined to wait a couple of years...).

Cheers!

I owned a C124 E320 CE until recently, it will be interesting to compare them (I think the Mercedes is very colour and spec dependent, particularly wheels).

The BMW E24 is a great looking car (though again can look bland if under-wheeled or a poor colour).

The 780 had some tough competition and was not a cheap car by any means - you really had to want a Volvo!

Ranks a lot higher than a BMW 6 series, Merc SL or a Rover SD1.

Should I please you by rephrasing to “best built coupé of the 80s”??

Cheers

Why would you want to please me (?), whilst I can appreciate the enthusiasm many have for the 780, it would not be my choice.

I would have had one already if it was.

J.

P.S I wouldn't compare it to a 6 Series (that is a very fine car and a superb engine), the SL isn't a coupe and the SD1 is a 5 door hatchback !!! I have a friend in Holland with a 780 so know the car well.
