Winter tyres sizes xc70
So what size winter wheels and tyres are suitable for a 2015 xc70 D4 auto FWD?
Been looking trying to find some but only seem to be miles away or off xc60/90 which are larger, car is on 17” rims and all season tyres happy with smaller 16” wheels but which fit and what tyre sizes? If we have another winter like the last one they will come in handy.... |

I run my MY 13 XC70 with 16" wheels from an earlier generation XC70, but with adaptor rings - they're only 1mm thick and only there to ensure accurate centering when fitting the wheels - the studs do the rest.
I find Pirellis are good enough for a bit of snow darn sarf. I got a good set from eBay, but they're a bit like hen's teeth nowadays. As they're genuine Volvo wheels the insurance company isn't bothered. |

Tyres, of course, are a different size between every model, as you mention, but if you can get a set of bare wheels (or with trashed tyres of any size) from any of the above , cheap enough, then you can get whatever tyres you want to go on them. My fwd xc70 came with 18" wheels, which are used through the 'summer' and then I have 17"'s for the 'winter'. You will probably find that most volvo 16" wheels will be too small for your car as you will likely have the 316mm brake discs. The tyre sizes for your car, for the various wheel diameters, will be in your owners manual. Last edited by 1monkey600; Aug 2nd, 2018 at 10:18. |

XC90 wheels will not fit as the centre bore is larger on the XC90. You can get adapter rings but the snug fit to the centre spigot is part of the load bearing structure and hence whilst many people do use adapter rings - you are better to get the correct wheels.
Any FoMoCo derrived larger Volvo wheels have the same bolt pattern and centre bore (P3 XC/V70, Mk2 S60, Mk2 S80, XC60, V60 etc.) the bigger wheels from the XC60 might rub but as you are looking for small wheels then you should be fine. If you are worried about snow and ice then Michelin Cross Climates are highly regarded as are the Nokian and Vredestein winter options. If you have mud to deal with as well then strongly recommend you look at a winter tyre with an AT like tread pattern such as Cooper WeatherMaster (4x4) or General Snow Grabber.

I may have exactly what you need: a spare set of genuine Volvo ‘Valder’ wheels from/for XC70.
They were standard equip. on SE models, n/c option on Lux. Fitted with Orium tyres (235/55) with plenty of tread. No longer required so would consider selling if that’s any help...

As it says, I’m in Kirkcudbright, SW Scotland (it's your location that’s more of a mystery!) I’ve never heard of Oriums either (budgets?) - no sign of winter markings but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not... they look pretty good, but I assume you’d be changing them for proper winters, anyway. Apart from a few small marks, the wheels are in very good condition - no nasty kerbing. Looking for what I paid, which was £350. There are specialist wheel couriers who don’t charge silly prices, so location may not be too much of a problem.

The car in question is in the West Midlands. I’m in South Wales but travel about a fair bit but not as far as Scotland yet.
Will keep an eye out for something closer but thanks for the offer. |
