Worked a treat thank you. If only I could make it stay on permanently...

Default 4C gearbox software

Does the P2 XC70 with the TF80 and 4C have software that changes the boxes behaviour? Can't say I've noticed mine does it.,

Not sure where I read this but I *think* on the P2 V70R models where you have the three modes (Comfort, Sport, Advanced) it does but on the normal models with two modes and single button selection (Comfort, Sport) it doesn't.

To be honest I'd not noticed that it affected the transmission on my 2008 XC70 - not sure if that's because it's been P*'d.

Has anyone done a control module adaption?

After a valve body replacement, 1 oil change 20k miles before and one during the replacement, I find that after the normal 'reset adaptations' it takes about 2500 miles to settle down into a nearly normal driving style and even then it's a bit temperamental.

I'm wondering if a control module adaption will improve it?

I’ve had my XC70 for a month now and I’ve have a few questions before I head back to the dealer to get it checked.
2008 D5 awd 185
Full dealer history and 50,000 miles

Basically I not sure if I have gearbox issues or not.

Does the gearbox lockup in all gears for engine braking? It doesn’t seem to do it in 2nd. If I let off the accelerator the revs drop to idle and pick up again if I press the accelerator.
I feel like there is slippage in 2nd also, if I accelerate from a standstill it will shift to 2nd but only drop about 200rpm then rev steady (ish) like it’s looking for friction then the revs increase without a reasonable increase in speed then change to third the revs drop about 500rpm which is about right for an up shift sometimes I feel the same symptoms in 3rd the rest of the gearbox is fine.
I also experience “flaring” if I’m driving at a steady speed and slightly press the throttle the revs jump 1 or 200rpm then it’s gets grip the revs drop back and it will accelerate. Is this right?
These symptoms are not present all the time but if the car is laden, 3up and bikes on the roof they are more noticeable.
Sorry if these are silly questions but I’d like to get my facts correct before I speak to the dealer.

Terry.
yes sounds ok to me , make sure you have the latest software in the gearbox … and change the oil , it is probably 10 years old ...... lock up works on the higher gears . your "flaring" is the lock up clutch letting go and coming back in .

Thanks Clan,

Gearbox Oil changed last weekend, Sump dumps until 12l went through.
I'll run for a couple of weeks and do another couple.
It came out in reasonable condition, no burnt smell and still a hint of red in colour.
How do I check which is the latest software number? I can get the software details from VIDA is there an online source for the latest version numbers?
Is a reset calibration process a necessity? or will it self learn shift changes with the new oil?

There is no data for software numbers , when it is connected to vida that does the checking and will show if there is a later version available . Your dealer or his parts dept will be able to tell you .

It will calibrate itself as you drive , If you reset the adaption it might be jerky for a while ..
You can reset the oil counter , but it isn't too important I have only come across one " Transmission oil service required " message in 15 years ...on 1000's of these cars .

Perfect, every service in the book is from a Volvo dealer so I'd expect it to have had any updates if they are automatically detected as needing done.
I'll ask specifically anyway next time it's in just to be sure.
