V70 2002 2.4 Throttle Module problem
Volvo V70 2002 2.4 Auto Estate.
Firstly, this forum has been my "go to" place for information when my Volvo has been giving me some trouble. I have almost always found answers or clues that have put me back on the road again and I would like to give a big thanks to all those that put the time and effort in to make life a bit easier. I've always found the answers that I've been looking for by searching the forum, but this time I need help. I got into my car about a week ago and found it was in "limp home" mode. I've sent the throttle module off to a repairers with a convincing web presence and have been advised today that the unit is beyond repair. I'm now looking for a replacement unit but the part numbers are proving difficult to match up with what is available. I took a crude photo of the unit before I sent it off and from what I can make out the (relevant) numbers are: 8644345/65CFM9 and AH0013536C. It is a Magnetti Marelli unit. When asked, the repairers say it is a programming/software problem. Can anyone provide a possible source for this unit or advice on what to do next. I don't want to scrap the vehicle just yet, it still a good car and I would be sorry to see it go. Thanks again, Mike |

Probably not the answer you want but, I had a new ETM fitted at the old MRG Volvo site (City motors) Volvo dealer last year. Cost for the part, labour, computer work was £400 ish all in.
This is your best option as any second hand ETM you may get will cost around £100 and will need to be programmed to your car before it will work. So best to spend £200 on a new warranted part from Volvo.

Thanks for the information. I'd be open to a £400 bill and maybe that's something I'll look into. I've purchased a second hand unit and been told it will work after fitting without programming, if what you are saying is correct then I'm going to have problems. A basic search of the Internet shows new OEM units are not too common of this type and quite costly when available. I would also need to have the vehicle uplifted to a suitable garage as it is stuck here at the moment. Again, thanks, at least I'm forewarned.

When my ETM went, the car still drove but may have needed a 'reboot' aka switch it off and on again, if it played up.
ETM cause various issues when they go. If you car is drives in limp mode, you could drive it to a garage. The safest option is the OEM volvo Your very own unit, if repaired can go back in and will work without programming but, if you have a new unit, it will need to be programmed. Some independents such as Kings Volvo who I travel far too are capable of doing this sort of work with the right computer equipment and there may be a few others who can do it and potentially save you a little bit of cost as far as the labour goes.

DSK, my old unit is still with the guys from the Internet. They say it's beyond repair and it's beyond me to argue. I'll fit the one I've ordered and see where it takes me, then if no joy I'll have to rethink everything. Thanks for your consideration, I'll keep what you say at the front of my mind. Mike |

I think the suggestion of getting a new unit fitted is probably a good option, least you know it’s gunna be reliable. Good luck.
