was 19 when I bought my first Volvo a 145 estate great car, and have had since:-
245 DL Auto
340 Auto
240 Estate Manual
now own a V40 Turbo

I have had others in between but nothing in my eyes compares to the Volvos, I may be biased but who's bothered.

Extract from parkers guide;
Volvo's efforts to build a convincing medium car have brought us the modern V40/S40 series, a huge improvement over the uninspired, stodgy old 440/460 series. Compared with the class-leading Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, Volvo still has some way to go, but the S40/V40 is far from ordinary and has safety and solidity on its side. The turbo engines, particularly the T4, have attracted a new wave of younger, fashion-conscious buyers, though Volvo is still not as trendy as its compatriot, Saab. Some early cars were not quite up to scratch in terms of build quality, but improvements were soon made and the range is now a sensible buy, new or secondhand.
Saab.........who????

My 14 yer old son has a P1800S! But it needs some restoring yet, however he is adamant he will drive it.

Josh - don't tell my son - or he'll want to out do me there in having a T4 at a young age. Well in! How is insurance?

He also wants an S40 to start driving in. No Clio/Saxo/Corsa/ZR's for my lot!

Insurance is no fun for me... £180 a month, but its worth it for such a great car.
However we have just relocated to Derby, so I no longer have my part time job, and I am a uni student as well, so pretty broke, this being the reason I am now selling my T4

Shame on insurance... No fun being a student and skint. Been there. Still skint...

What type of T4? V40 or S40, manual or auto? Are you going to advertise it as my wife might be looking for one... She is so impressed with my S70 T5auto. At 42 I pay £330 fully comp with NCB protected as a business user. A V40 1.8 is group 11 insurance.

Good luck job hunting

19 and a T4 how'd you manage that mr money bags...i'v got a 1.8 V40 estate and pay ~ (around) £70 pcm, when i get a quote from the same company for a T4 the insurance goes up to around £90 pcm...maybe another years no claims before i cash in for a T4 V40, or just keep mine and tune it.

- I read on the mitsubishi forums that you can get a good 170bhp out of the GDi Engine if you get decent filters, exhaust and re-map. AmD are near me lol

£180 a month ? Not bad really, considering a recent conversation I had with Adrian Flux regarding adding my 17 year old son to the insurance of a 90 bhp 1.8 cavalier.

Despite the fact that this car has belonged to my wife since early 2000, I was told in no uncertain terms that for me to teach him to drive (The Goverment advice is a combination of lessons and practise with parents). The car would need to be in his name and the insuarance in his name. How much ? £3K. Now I have 2 issues with that. It's not his car and he isn't the main user so that would be fraudulant. and £3K ? That's a real **** take. Wifey's premium last time was £180 a year, and I'd had a couiple of internet quotes with him as a named driver at about £1300.

Let me say again Adrian Flux.
