Default Quick question

Im sure its nothing serious but twice my wife has mentioned that when she parked the car the fan kept running. Today she parked outside the house and the fan was running like a WW2 Merlin. I started the car and the fan stopped.
Is this normal with temperature being so low right now?

DPF active regen in progress when she parked up? If it was interrupted then it'd possibly resume the next time the car went out.

Also, simply being cold outside the engine still runs very hot! Turn your heating on full temperature and see just how hot it can get!!

Temp gauge on normal so I think that the regen is the reason.

This post has jogged a question often on my mind. On several occasions returning home for example the regen fans are roaring away as I leave it parked up. Would it be better to continue to drive the car until the process had concluded to ensure it's had a proper clean out/regen?

I dropped in here today to, as I'm considering an XC60. Have to say what the OP describes sounds no more than the cooling fans on the radiators running on after the engine is cut. A 30/70 event after shutoff ( on V70's Petrol or diesel - we run both) and not anything to be concerned about. On my D5 they occasionally run on for 2-3 minutes no more. Its never caused an issue in 25+ years.

I'm curious about the concept of "fans running while regen" - never heard about that.
Cheers

The ECU knows the underbonnet temperature and for what ever reason if it goes above a certain value it will run the radiator fans , When regenerating , the exhaust system will get up to 600 C so turning off half way through will leave a lot of heat under the bonnet . No harm though , the regeneration will carry on until finished next time you do a suitable journey ..

Engine idle speed could well be higher than normal if it's "mid re-gen"?

May also be the aircon recycling/evaporation cycle. The a/c is likely to run on sometime after the system shuts down. It does explain in the owners manual (which I can't find!!!)
