See your Amazon post: I have driven it and it is HMD not AMD. The most recent owner has spent LOADS on it so probably very good.

purchaseof 164 hmd
Hi, i'm about to purchase this old car to add to collection and would be interested in any information on it as i know it has been around the club for a while.
I have had a few 164's over the years and in my opinion the 1971 model is the best looking, slim bumpers, proper chrome door handles and top quality window frames. The quality of Volvo cars just seemed to go down after this year ? |

I suggest a previous owner, the VOC 164 registrar would be the best to tell you more. I merely stored it and ran it occasionally for him for a couple of years or so. I have a pic of it with my 164 outside if interested.

Julek - further to your post, I disagree regarding best FUNCTIONAL year for 164s: my '69 cars have far more reliable ribbon speedo than those always-failing round ones, windscreen in rubber surround rather than bonded in with those crap rust-inducing clips, far better-looking rear lights than those 'orrible boxes the later cars have, and proper knock-on hubcaps rather than those stupid screw-on ones.
Perhaps I should have started a new thread..... P |

Spares for 164
Thanks for you replies, however I still think the 71 Volvo look the best.
On another note I require a few parts for this car which are as follows; Windscreen wiper arm in alloy/silver; Black interior door lock Or 4 chrome ones if available, Rubber interior vent handles, the one under the dash. Regards Julian |

Did you get its numberplate by any chance? It could well have been - perhaps on its new home in Wales?
Certainly interesting if it isn't, as I've not heard of another maroon one in the Manchester area. Any more pics - was it a column-change auto: was the front numperplate framed with a chrome band? You've got me curious now! P |
